Microsoft release SQL Server 2000 SP3
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2000 includes a rollup of all bug fixes to date. It also includes some significant enhancements to security. Microsoft also updated Books Online for this service pack. (1/20/2003)
In addition to providing the latest updates and fixes, SQL Server 2000 SP3 includes the following benefits:

Serviceability improvements include:- Enhanced error reporting. SQL Server can be configured to have critical errors automatically sent to Microsoft.
- Improved multi-server administration.
- New monitoring API. Database administrators (DBAs) or third-party tools can diagnose problem processes.
- Performance
SP3 introduces support for QLogic's VI-enabled SANblade QLA2350 Fibre Channel controller. The use of Virtual Interface technology in the SQL Server networking layer reduces CPU consumption per message on the server and client systems and improves performance. - Security
The latest security features and tools include:- Updates to SQL Server 2000 Books Online. SQL Server 2000 Books Online provides customers with more guidance on how to make their environment more secure.
- Security patches. SP3 includes patches for known vulnerabilities reported by users or discovered through ongoing testing.
- SQL Server Agent enhancements. SP3 gives you the ability to run SQL Server Agent without having to be an administrator.
